Newquay isn't just about beaches though. Trenance Gardens, a mass of colour and tranquillity, is an easy walk away. Horse riding is also available from stables next to the boating lake. Town'sZoo is also situated within the gardens area as is Waterworld - more than just a swimming baths - both of which provide hours of pleasure.

If you like walking, then the coastal path offers some excellent views with breathtaking expanses of beaches and cliffs. The walk in particular from townto Watergate Bay is stunning. Walk along the Gannel Estuary from Trenance to Crantock for a level easy walk.

Gardeners and lovers of plant life are not forgotten either. Newquayboasts eleven gardens open to the public on a regular basis, with others opening at certain times of the year (brochure available at the guest house). Probably the most famous, as a result of its wide television coverage, is "The Lost Gardens of Heligan" described by their brochure as "asleep for more than seventy years".

In 2001, the mind blowing Eden Project opens to the public. This will offer year round exotic plants, rain forests and plants from around the world. One of the large greenhouses ("biomes") is large enough to accommodate the Tower of London and there will be eight biomes. The project is well on its way to completion and to whet your appetite a viewing area complete with plans and models is being opened to the public in May 2000.

Children are not forgotten in Cornwall. Apart from the sea and some of the finest beaches in Europe, Newquayoffers the Zoo, boating, Waterworld, Miniature Railway, several mini-golf courses, the Sea Life Centre and Tunnels Through Time or learn to Surf Life Save on Lusty Glaze beach. Just outside the town you have Dairyland and further afield Flambards near Helston and the Lands End Complex - five attractions on one site. All well worth a visit.

Golfers have a wide choice of fine locations. Newquayas a fine 18 hole 6,000 yard, par 69 course overlooking Fistral Beach. Treloy on the edge of town offers a shorter 9 hole course and there are other excellent 18 hole courses at Perranporth, Bodmin (Lanhydrock) and Truro. All of these can be booked through the guest house for your convenience and some offer discounts on green fees.

If you want to treat yourself to something different, why not try a day trip to the Isles of Scilly. Described as having "a tranquillity and quality of life long lost to less isolated places". You can fly from NewquayAirport in just 25 minutes for about £70.00 or drive to Penzance and either sail across on Scillonian III or take a 20 minutes helicopter crossing.
